Like many individuals, the events of September 11 changed my life dramatically. Finding myself unemployed and with no direction I turned to the staff at the Rapid Response Center. There I found a group folks willing to help me. I was guided to a computer where I was able to sign up for benefits. They explained that I could do this at home on my own also. I chose to do it there so I was sure not to make any mistakes. Afterwards I was then given information on CareerLink.
Later that night I decided to check out the CareerLink site from my home computer. I got myself logged on and registered. The next day I called CareerLink to see what I needed to do to obtain their services and to find out more about CareerLink. I was set up with an appointment to participate in Orientation. I was thoroughly amazed and impressed with all the services offered at CareerLink. At the downtown office I participated in a Skills Assessment Session as well as effective Resume writing. After discussing some options with a counselor I decided I needed to go back to school for some retraining.
The program that I was interested in was E-Commerce at The International Academy of Design and Technology. Unfortunately this program was not on the approved list. Connecting the school with Three Rivers Workforce Investment Board, the necessary steps were made to get the program added to the list.
Going through the process I have encountered professional, willing to go above and beyond, caring people who are truly interested in seeing this Dislocated Worker succeed! September 11 unexpectedly changed my life's path. January 28th, my first day of school, is a new beginning for me. Thank you to the outstanding people at the Rapid Response Center as well as those at CareerLink.
