When Jill Konieczko visited McKeesport CareerLink in February she was about five minutes away from deciding to move out of the area. Discouraged and frustrated in her Pittsburgh job search, she seriously considered relocating back to Washington D.C. where she had lived for ten years to find work. Konieczko has a Master's of Library Science from the University of Pittsburgh. After being laid off from her job in November, she scrambled to secure another professional position. She sent dozens and dozens of resumes to contacts she had met through the years but could only patiently wait for a position suited for her to open. When visiting CareerLink, she was pleased with the help she received. "I found the CareerLink service to be a valuable tool in my job hunt. The staff was helpful and provided some great resources," says Konieczko. "The CareerLink website is well-developed and intuitive, and provides one-click access to a broad and deep set of employment-hunting resources and ideas." Konieczko landed a job in March as knowledge management administrator/librarian with a large, locally based grocery store chain. Ella Holsinger, Executive Director of McKeesport CareerLink, says her center assists many professional level job seekers. "Employers are increasingly relying on CareerLink to help them identify highly skilled, experienced workers, but many people continue to mistakenly associate CareerLink with low-wage jobs," says Holsinger.
