Pittsburgh/Allegheny County CareerLink Wins National Award For Serving Business Customers

September 23, 2003 - Pittsburgh/Allegheny CareerLink took top honors at the National Association of State Workforce Agencies' Customer Service Awards in Seattle last week. Nominated for its excellence in serving the needs of regional employers, the organization received the Prism Award and a $25,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Labor, Employment and Training Administration.

The National Customer Service Awards honor programs and projects serving workforce investment customers nationwide. Thirty-seven nominations were submitted and the winners were chosen by a panel of judges with knowledge of business service and expertise in workforce development initiatives.

"This award represents three years of hard work and dedication by our business services unit. These staff members have combined the resources of multiple agencies and partners across 14 sites to offer efficient and effective services to our business customers. We are truly thrilled to receive this honor," says Barbara Parees, Chairperson of Pittsburgh/Allegheny County CareerLink's Leadership Consortium. Parees also says the grant money will be used for enhanced services for small business and the dissemination of CareerLink best practices to workforce development organizations throughout the region.

Pittsburgh/Allegheny County CareerLink is one of the most innovative and successful employment and business service agencies in the nation. With nearly 50,000 new jobseekers enrolled, it is the largest single source of manpower in the region. With more than 2,000 local businesses in the last two years listing 20,000 jobs -- many of which are not advertised on other websites or in newspapers - Pittsburgh/Allegheny County CareerLink truly represents an otherwise "hidden job market."

Serving both professionals and non-professionals, job seeker services include a free on-line job matching system, career counseling, and resume-writing assistance. Services for employers include free online job postings, personalized staff assistance, on-site recruitment, applicant assessment and prescreening. The system, which is a partnership of government, business and community organizations, consists of fourteen centers offering services to citizens and local businesses in convenient neighborhood and commercial locations.
